A gallery is only as good as the hands around it. Here is what that means in practice at Putnam Farms Gallery.
Each catalogue line carries the artist's name, the medium, the year and a short note on where the work was made. You can follow one practice across several seasons instead of guessing who did what.
The painters and printmakers in each show work within an hour of the property. Their subjects are the fence lines, silos and grazing camps they pass on ordinary days, not scenery chosen for a postcard.
A studio visit takes you past the finished plate. You see working drawings, uncut blocks and the half-finished surfaces, which is usually where a body of work starts to make sense.
The digital gallery follows the same order as the physical rooms, and the zoom view shows paper grain and brush marks. If you cannot travel, you still read the work at close range.
The Saturday walk-through moves slowly through the current hang with the gallery team, kept small so there is time to stand in front of individual plates. The seasonal catalogue can be requested by email if you would rather read first and visit later.
